America On Line uses image compression as a default setting. Although this speeds downloads, this can make photographs and graphics download improperly. For instance, you may see strange black splotches or blocks in backgrounds or photographs Here's how to turn off this "feature". First go to Members and then Preferences. |

| Then click on WWW and look for the Internet Properties graphic. |

| Make sure the Use compressed graphics option is turned off. (There should be no check in the box circled below.) |
If you need to change the setting, click on the box and then click OK. Restart the AOL software to activate the changed properties. The 4.0 version of the AOL browser, has not been tested at this time. It may or may not have a similar "feature". |
